Grace & Magpie – Video Clip

Every now and then my Grace Sweetie will bring a live bird inside in my home. I trust she likes doing that not only as her ecological / genetic instinct to ensure she sits at the top of the food chain as an apex carnivore in her niche but also it is her way of saying she loves me. Despite the fact that debate and controversy surrounding cats kills birds that hang in the air, ecologically speaking, the hunting efficiency of cats (any cats including wild cats) are no more than 10%. In other words, if there are 100 birds, a cat can kill 10 of them a year. It certainly does not have any negative impact on bird population size and in fact it has positive outcome. By eliminating the weak gene pool, cat is actually helping the birds to re-strengthen their genetic composition and structure their ecological niche. Anyway enough of nerdy talk, let me share this relatively recent video of my Megan Sweetie in action with a Magpie. It is kind of brutal and sad to see how that Magpie get killed but there was not much I could do other than recording it. Predator prey interaction is natural in the wild and important event be it happening outside or in my kitchen….
