I am Mohammed Ashraf. Some folks know me as Mohammed, some as Ashraf or simply Ash. Whichever one prefers, I am fine by it. I hailed out from Bangladesh. It’s a country near to eastern part of India. It used to be part of Pakistan but from early 1970s, it became independent county for all the good reasons. It is relatively new country in terms of its independence of course and it is roughly the size of Wisconsin : one of the states in America. The country is economically malnourished like majority of the developing nations across the globe hence one can argue I represent one of the most impoverished and tough nations on earth. However, Bangladesh is very rich in terms of biological diversity, social and cultural fabrics, and many other ways that are of often intangible hence cannot be measured in monetary term. The largest mangrove estuary called ‘Sundarbans’ is in Bangladesh. The Bengal Tigers live in it and no other mangroves in the world harbor wild tigers hence Bangladesh Sundarbans is an unique and largest estuarine delta ecosystem on earth. Although I am native Bangladeshi, I have been living in England for over a decade. Academically, I hold British degrees in Ecology and Wildlife Biology. I did my Higher National Diploma in Ecology and then went on to secure my degree in Wildlife Biology from Anglia Ruskin University at Cambridge. Prior to my degrees, I worked with various international organizations mainly focused on wild tiger conservation in Bangladesh. I have been academically trained to carry out ecological studies on wild cats across the globe. Although my career path at the moment is in crossroad due to various socio-economic factors beyond my control, I continue to keep up with my academic life and envision to make a professional career in future. I work full time, not the kind of job that I want to make career out of it but it is a full time job hence it pays my bills and expenses and allow me to focus on my real passion to help protect wild animals on the ground without worrying about ‘food to bring on the table or to keep roof over my head’. Although I work full time often graveyard shifts five days a week, I endeavor to study everyday to prepare myself to venture into graduate level study in Mathematics in Masters level in near future. Certainly the job also helps me to save money for my graduate study. In spite of all these social and economic setbacks, I continue my perseverance with some trepidation and so far have managed to publish over dozens of academic paper focusing wild tigers and other endangered vertebrates in international journals and magazine. Almost all my works on tigers have entered into IUCN cat library. Headquartered in Switzerland, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) is the largest and highest level wildlife conservation authority in the world. Finally, based on my mode of life here in Britain, I can marshal an argument that I lead my life in the cross-cultural and inter-social interphase between Europe, North America and Asia in general. Hence, based in England, I live and act like a true global citizen where cross cultural fertilization to me is at paramount importance despite large scale geo-political and socio-economic boundaries and gaps between England and Bangladesh. I created this site as hobby and more importantly to showcase the life of my daughters who bring enormous joy, excitement and happiness in me.
